The S.N.S Herning trademark dates back to 1919 and comes from the founder, Søren Nielsen Skyt, and the town, Herning, where the business was conceived. Søren was a pioneer in the mechanization of the "bubble" knit, a technique that creates air pockets that increase a garment's insulation without increasing the amount of material used to make it. Previously only achievable through tedious hand-knitting, Søren's solution allowed for greater volume without any sacrifice in durability.
